Professor Stephen J. Brown, Stern School of Business, NYU(Group Chairman)
Stephen J. Brown is David S. Loeb Professor of Finance at the New York University Stern School of Business. He graduated from the University of Chicago with an MBA and a Ph.D. in 1976. On his first appointment at Bell Laboratories, he spent time on assignment as District Manager in the AT&T Pension Fund where he was responsible for the asset management function. Professor Brown has served as President of the Western Finance Association and is a Managing Editor of the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis. He has published extensive research on asset management issues. This research won the prestigious Graham and Dodd Award in 2010 for the best paper published in the Financial Analysts Journal. He has been retained as an advisor by asset management companies in Australia, China, Japan and the United States and is currently retained by Russell Investments as a member of their Academic Advisory Board. Professor Brown has testified on his asset management research before the US Congress in March 2007.
Marno Verbeek, Professor, Rotterdam School of Management
Marno Verbeek, Ph.D., is a professor of finance at Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University. Verbeek’s interests are in the areas of asset pricing, professional asset management, econometrics and empirical finance. His current research focuses on mutual funds, hedge funds and risk management. He is author of the successful textbook ‘A Guide to Modern Econometrics’ (John Wiley and Sons) and has published numerous articles in international journals such as the Journal of Financial and Quantitative Analysis, Quantitative Finance, Review of Finance, Financial Management, the Journal of Banking and Finance, the International Economic Review and the Review of Economics and Statistics. Previously Marno Verbeek regularly speaks at industry meetings and for practitioner’s audiences, typically relating to hedge funds, quantitative investment strategies and the mutual fund industry. He also provides short workshops on micro-econometric modelling related to risk management and policy making.
Lester Gray, CEO, Schroders Asia
Lester Gray is Chief Executive - Asia Pacific for Schroders, a global asset management company with USD286.1 billion under management as of 30 September 2010. Mr. Gray was appointed Director of Schroders Investment Banking subsidiary in 1993. He had several roles within the investment bank, including Group Head of Risk, Head of Financial Markets Operations, and Group I.T. Director. In 1997 he was seconded to New York for three years as CIO of the New York Investment Banking subsidiary of Schroders. Lester Gray returned to London in April 2000 as Chief Operations Officer for the Schroder Group. In 2004 he relocated to Singapore to take up his current position. Schroders has 9 offices in 8 countries in Asia Pacific, employing over 650 staff and managing approximately USD74 billion on behalf of Asian clients as of 30 September 2010. In addition to his executive role, Mr. Gray is also Chairman of the Investment Management Association of Singapore since August 2006 and a Director of the Singapore Institute of Banking and Finance. He was conferred as a Financial Industry Certified Practitioner (FICP) in 2007.
Lars Eigen Møller, Executive Vice President, Danske Capital
Lars Eigen Møller is Executive Vice President and head of Asset Management in Danske Capital, with the overall responsibility for all investment activities, institutional business and business support. Danske Capital, a part of Danske Bank, is a leading Asset Manager in the Nordic region with presence in all countries and a strong product range within Nordic as well as European and Eastern European assets. Lars Møller has more than 22 years of experience within asset management and holds a MSc of Economics from the University of Copenhagen and a BA in Marketing from Copenhagen Business School. Prior to his current position, Lars Møller has held a number of positions in Danske Capital, including being responsible for Fixed Income and Asset Allocation.
Dr. Ralf Schmücker, Managing Director, SimCorp
Ralf Schmücker, Ph.D. and Master of Mathematics, is Senior Vice President and Managing Director of Sales and Market Support at SimCorp Central Europe. Before being appointed to his current position in 2009, Dr. Schmücker has been Vice President for Implementation Services at SimCorp North America and for Market Support and Implementation Services, SimCorp GmbH, respectively. Serving as a strong background for these positions, Ralf Schmücker has achieved an extensive experience as group manager, project manager and consultant from working in various SimCorp departments and companies in the German financial sector.
Peter Engel, Senior Sales Manager, SimCorp
Peter Engel has spent a significant part of his professional career with KPMG Consulting. Starting in 1990 as a business consultant in the Financial Services sector, he was promoted to partner in 2000. In this position, he was responsible for coordinating the delivery of consulting services to the asset management industry in German speaking countries. His areas of expertise included business process optimisation and large IT projects along the whole value chain of various asset management companies. After a short employment with a smaller software company, Peter Engel joined Profidata, a Swiss-based software provider to the asset management industry, as a managing director. Since November 2004, he was responsible for all Profidata’s marketing and sales activities in Germany and Austria. In December 2010, Peter Engel joined SimCorp CE as Senior Sales Manager. He is a regular speaker and chair person of industry conferences. Aged 49, he holds a degree in business mathematics from the University of Ulm, Germany.
Dushyant Shahrawat, Senior Research Director, TowerGroup
Dushyant Shahrawat is a Senior Research Director at TowerGroup in the Securities and Investments practice. With over 15 years of experience in financial services, he is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of the Boston Security Analysts Society. Shahrawat researches strategic issues facing asset managers, hedge funds and brokerage firms globally, and advises clients about strategy, marketing, regulation, technology and product development. Dr. Matthäus Den Otter, CEO, Swiss Funds Association SFA
Matthäus Den Otter received a doctorate in law from the University of
Zurich and also graduated from the Swiss Finance Institute. With effect from April 1, 2005, he has been appointed Managing Director of the Swiss Funds Association SFA. He is also a Vice-Chairman of Swiss Fund Data Ltd., Zürich, and a Member of the Board of Directors of Efama, the European Fund & Asset Management Association Efama, Brussels. After finishing his legal training and a two-year apprenticeship at Swiss Bank Corporation, Mr. Den Otter spent almost his entire career in the fund industry. From 1987 - 1994 as an Authorization Officer at the Swiss Federal Banking Commission. From 1994 – 1996 he was a Managing Director of the Swissca Funds Management Ltd., Bern. 1996, he returned to the Swiss Federal Banking Commission in order to become Deputy Head of the Authorizations/Investment Funds department. He has also published numerous articles and several books, including ‘Investmentfonds’ (published by NZZ-Verlag) and a commentary on the Investment Fund Act. Until leaving the SFBC, he was also involved in the drafting of the new Swiss Federal Act on Collective Investment Schemes (‘CISA’).
Michael Jarzabek, Generalbevollmächtigter, LBBW Asset Management Investmentgesellschaft GmbH
Michael Jarzabek is General Manager for LBBW Asset Management’s Institutional Client Relationship Management and Client Reporting. Holding a ‘Diplom-Kaufmann’ business administration degree, Mr. Jarzabek has worked all his professional life in the financial industry. Starting his career at Bayerische Landesbank, he has held several important positions in portfolio/fund management for Munich Re, Ampega Investment and ABN AMRO. Since 2005, he has worked for LBBW Asset Management, the German asset management company of Landesbank Baden-Württemberg in Stuttgart, with EUR 23 bn. assets under management. Mr. Jazabek has a wide range of investment experience in active and passive portfolio management, covering Asean, African and European fixed income and equity markets as well as strategic and tactical asset allocation.
